Unit 8 Project - Proposal

Section 1:

Through units 1-7 I have learnt many new media skills and most of these will be needed in order for me to complete my unit 8 project the best that I can. One thing that I learnt was how to manually focus a camera and perform focus pulls. Another set of skills that I learnt from the previous units are editing techniques, such as cross-cutting and transitioning. Through these techniques and many others, I have been able to learn how to create a moving image piece that flows correctly with context and doesn’t look blocky and static. These techniques interested me in moving image and made me want to test myself by using the techniques, and because of my interest in music, I have chosen to do a music video for my final project.

Section 2:

My idea for a creative project is a music video using the song 'Sad Still' by Quinn XCII. The song is about how mental health is still seen as a negative thing in society to some people and how people are forced to try and fight it alone or hide the condition. The main theme that I have gone for with the video is to ironically go the opposite to each theme. The concept of the music video is of a man suffering from a multitude of mental health issues and how he attempts to find the solution to his problems on his own. This will be represented by him in a science lab mixing chemicals and creating pills and tablets that he thinks will sort his issues out. In the verses of the song, the beat speeds up a lot (to emphasise how the artist's head feels with anxiety and depression), during these sections of the song the video will be set in a forest to emphasise how isolated he feels. This represents how he doesn't feel fellowship with anyone as he believes he has to face everything alone, never realising that there are people out there going through the exact same thing.

Section 3:

Throughout the project, I am going to continuously record and evaluate my progress through a video log and voice notes. After I complete the project, I plan to summarise my work in a written evaluation that thoroughly goes over each stage and aspect that brought my project to fruition. I also have plans to take part in a small podcast with some other students in order to explain and adapt our ideas together.
